Why Choose Orange Fancy Carrots?
- Nantes–Imperator hybrid: Combines smooth root shape and refined flavor with vigorous growth and strong foliage.
- Uniform roots: Straight, blunt-ended 7 to 8-inch carrots are useful for fresh eating and bunching.
- Rich orange color: Attractive roots bring color and crunch to salads, vegetable boards, and cooked dishes.
- Easy-to-space pellets: Coated seeds are easier to see and handle for precise sowing.
- Four packet sizes: Choose the seed quantity that fits a small garden or successive plantings.
What Are Pelleted Seeds?
Each seed is coated to create a more uniform shape and make it easier to see and handle. Keep the seedbed evenly moist during germination so the coating can soften and break down. Learn more about pelleted seeds.
Planting Tips for Success
- Choose seasonal timing: Direct sow in spring or late summer for fall harvests, adjusting to local weather and frost dates.
- Prepare loose soil: Remove stones and hard clumps. Loosen the bed deeply enough for straight roots; compacted soil can produce misshapen carrots.
- Sow shallowly: Plant approximately 1/4 inch deep in fine soil. Maintain steady moisture while the pellets soften and seedlings emerge.
- Space for root development: Thin seedlings to about 2 to 4 inches apart. Packet size refers to seed quantity, not spacing.
- Provide sun and water: Grow in full sun and water deeply and evenly without leaving soil waterlogged.
- Feed moderately: Use soil-test or fertilizer-label guidance and avoid excessive nitrogen. Carrots do not require stakes or cages.
- Harvest gently: Begin checking roots around 75 days and loosen soil before lifting them at your preferred size and tenderness.

Garlic-Parsley Roasted Orange Fancy Carrots
Use harvested Orange Fancy carrots for this easy side dish. Recipe ingredients are harvested vegetables, not seed-packet contents. Serves 4. Prep: 15 minutes. Cook: 25 to 35 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds harvested Orange Fancy carrots
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Directions
- Heat the oven to 400°F. Wash carrots under running water, trim, and peel if desired.
- Halve lengthwise, quartering thick roots so pieces have similar thickness. Cut extra-long pieces to fit the pan.
- Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Roast for 20 minutes, turning halfway through.
- Add garlic and toss carefully. Roast for another 5 to 15 minutes, until fork-tender. Watch the garlic and cover loosely if it begins to brown too quickly.
- Toss with parsley and lemon juice. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving warm.
Recipe Tips and Storage
Check thinner pieces early and allow thick ones extra time. Add a small pat of butter at serving if desired. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container within 2 hours, or within 1 hour above 90°F, and use within 3 to 4 days. This is a cooked side dish, not a tested canning recipe.
