Why Choose Merlin Pelleted Beet Seeds?
- Round red roots: Smooth roots offer rich color for salads, roasted sides, and dips.
- Sweet, earthy flavor: Enjoy roots raw when finely grated or cooked until tender.
- Visible pellets: The coating helps with handling and seed placement; thin seedlings as needed.
- Four seed counts: Choose a packet to suit a small bed or staggered plantings.
- Non-GMO hybrid: Saved seeds may not reproduce Merlin's characteristics reliably.
What Are Pelleted Seeds?
Pelleted seeds have a coating that makes them easier to see, handle, and space. Keep the seedbed moist while the coating breaks down and seedlings emerge. Learn more about pelleted seeds.
Planting Tips for Success
- Timing: Direct sow during locally suitable cool-season planting windows.
- Soil: Prepare loose, well-drained soil with finished compost. Remove stones and hard clods.
- Depth: Sow about 1/2 inch deep. Water thoroughly and keep the seed zone moist during germination without waterlogging or surface crusting.
- Spacing: Thin seedlings to about 3–4 inches apart with 12–18 inches between rows.
- Sunlight: Choose full sun where possible and remove weeds early.
- Water: Maintain consistent moisture as roots develop.
- Fertilizer: Follow soil-test recommendations and fertilizer labels. Avoid excess nitrogen that favors foliage over roots.
- Support: Stakes and trellises are not needed for the root crop.
- Harvest: Check root size and lift carefully while tender. Harvest greens lightly, leaving foliage to support root growth.
