These tender 2–4 inch fruits measure just ¾ to 1¼ inches in diameter, are virtually free from bitterness, and contain very few seeds — making them exceptionally versatile in the kitchen. Sturdy plants reach 18–24 inches tall and produce abundantly, with some fruits developing in small clusters for impressive harvest efficiency. Why Choose Eggplant Little Finger?

  • All-America Selections Winner: Officially trialed and awarded by AAS for outstanding garden performance — a recognized mark of superior quality across diverse growing regions.
  • Bitter-Free, Seedless Flesh: Tender mini fruits are virtually free from bitterness and contain very few seeds — no salting or pre-treatment required before cooking.
  • Prolific Producer: Plants produce abundantly throughout the warm season, with some fruits forming in small clusters for efficient harvesting.
  • Compact Plant Size: 18–24 inch plants are ideal for small gardens, raised beds, and containers — one of the best eggplant varieties for limited space.
  • Striking Coloration: Beautiful purple and white patterned skin adds visual interest to the garden and the plate.
  • Heirloom & Open-Pollinated: Passed down through generations for at least 75 years — save seeds year after year.
  • Non-GMO Seeds: Plants whose DNA has not been altered in ways that do not occur naturally through traditional breeding methods.

Planting Tips for Success

  • Sunlight: Full sun — at least 6–8 hours per day. Eggplant is heat-loving and requires warm temperatures for best fruit set and production.
  • Soil: Rich, well-drained soil with a pH of 5.8–6.5. Amend generously with compost — eggplant is a heavy feeder.
  • Starting Indoors: Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost. Germination is best at 75–85°F — use a heat mat for consistent soil temperature.
  • Transplanting: Transplant outdoors only after soil temperatures reach 60°F and all frost risk has passed. Cold temperatures stunt growth significantly.
  • Spacing: Space plants 18–24 inches apart in rows 24–30 inches apart.
  • Watering: Water deeply and consistently — 1–2 inches per week. Inconsistent moisture causes bitter flavor and blossom drop.
  • Fertilizing: Apply balanced fertilizer at transplanting; side-dress with potassium-rich fertilizer once flowering begins to support fruit development.
  • Support: Stake or cage plants as they mature — heavy fruit loads can bend stems.
  • Harvesting: Harvest at 2–4 inches length when skin is glossy. Dull skin indicates over-maturity — harvest frequently to encourage continued production.

  • Roasted: Roast whole or halved at 425°F for 20–25 minutes until collapsed and caramelized — serve with tahini, yogurt, or fresh herbs.
  • Sautéed: Slice into rounds and sauté in olive oil with garlic and herbs for a quick, flavorful side dish or pasta topping.
  • Stuffed: Halve and stuff with seasoned ground meat, rice, or cheese — the small size makes perfect individual portions.
  • Stir-Fried: Quarter and stir-fry in sesame oil with soy sauce, ginger, and scallions for a classic Asian preparation.
  • Pickled: Quick-pickle in red wine vinegar with garlic and herbs for a tangy, tender antipasto-style condiment.
