Planting Tips for Success
- Season: Sow for spring or fall harvests according to local planting calendars.
- Light: Provide sun and good airflow; afternoon protection can help during hot weather.
- Soil: Prepare fertile, well-drained soil with organic matter.
- Sowing: Follow packet depth recommendations and cover lightly. Keep pellets evenly moist so the coating breaks down during germination.
- Spacing: Thin or transplant to give mini heads room to fill and air to circulate.
- Water: Maintain consistent moisture without waterlogging. Do not let germinating pellets dry out.
- Fertilizer: Apply a balanced vegetable fertilizer according to label directions and soil needs.
- Support and care: No staking or trellising is needed. Weed gently around shallow roots and monitor for aphids and slugs.
- Harvest: Cut heads at the desired mini-romaine size while dense and crisp, before bolting. Refrigerate promptly.
Disease Resistance
- Downy Mildew: High resistance to EU races 16–26 and 28–37.
- Downy Mildew: High resistance to US races 5–9.
- Lettuce Mosaic Virus: Intermediate resistance.
- Tomato Bushy Stunt Virus: High resistance.
Resistance is not immunity; garden sanitation and suitable growing conditions remain important.
