Why Choose Sunland Pelleted Romaine?

  • Heat-Tolerant Performance: Sunland is selected for summer growing, helping gardeners produce romaine heads and hearts during warmer conditions.
  • Earlier, Compact Growth: Sunland is earlier and more compact than Sparx, making it a practical choice for space-conscious plantings.
  • Thick, Savoyed Leaves: The thicker leaves add attractive texture and a satisfying bite to fresh romaine dishes.
  • Improved Yield and Consistency: Sunland was selected for dependable production and uniform results under suitable growing conditions.
  • Clean Harvest Presentation: Straight ribs and a tight, clean base help heads and hearts present neatly after harvest.
  • Precision-Friendly Pellets: The coated seeds are easier to see and space, with NOP-compliant pelleting for careful planting.

Planting Tips for Success

  • Choose the Right Season: Sow for spring or fall harvests, using Sunland’s heat tolerance to extend production into warmer weather.
  • Provide Sunlight: Grow in a sunny location with good airflow. In very hot conditions, afternoon protection can help keep leaves tender.
  • Prepare the Soil: Use fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter, and keep the seedbed free of weeds.
  • Plant Carefully: Place pelleted seeds at the depth recommended on the packet, then cover lightly and avoid burying them too deeply.
  • Space for Heads: Thin or transplant seedlings so compact romaine heads have room to develop and airflow can reach the foliage.
  • Keep Moisture Even: Water consistently so the soil stays evenly moist but not waterlogged, especially while seedlings are establishing.
  • Feed as Needed: Start with fertile soil and apply a balanced vegetable fertilizer according to label directions when plants need additional nutrition.
  • Harvest Heads or Hearts: Harvest Sunland at the size you prefer, handling the straight ribs and clean base gently after cutting.
