Onion sets are the gardener's shortcut to a bountiful harvest. These small, dormant bulbs—grown the season prior—skip months of seed-starting fuss, letting you jump straight to transplanting. Simply separate the sets and plant them out in your garden bed or containers, and watch them establish quickly into mature onions ready for harvest. Our sets arrive in dormant condition, which means they'll look dry and pale—that's perfectly normal and actually a sign they're properly cured for storage and shipping. Don't let their appearance fool you; these hardy little bulbs are packed with vigor. With basic care—consistent moisture, good drainage, and sunlight—they'll thrive and deliver a reliable crop of fresh onions for your kitchen. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, onion sets remove the guesswork and give you a head start on growing success.

Remove from box upon receiving and keep the plants dry. Plant within 3 days at 1 inch deep. When planting, you can plant them 2 inches apart. In a few weeks, pull every other one. This will give you a small or cocktail onion. In a few more weeks pull every other one again. This will give you a golf ball size onion. You can keep pulling until you have the space you need for the 16 ounce sized onions. This is if you are growing the right onion in the right day zone. Short day onions will grow in intermediate and long day area, but they will not get as big. And vice versa. Same great taste.
