Passionflower (Maypop) is a vigorous herbaceous or woody vine native to the southeastern and eastern United States, prized for its striking three-dimensional flowers in purple and white. This heirloom variety thrives in full sun with well-drained soil and benefits from sturdy trellis support. Ideal for creating seasonal living shade structures, adorning fences, or training up sunny walls and porches, passionflower delivers both functional screening and dramatic seasonal blooms. While young plants require consistent moisture and weeding during establishment, mature vines become remarkably self-sufficient, needing only a framework to climb. Traditionally valued for its calming properties, this perennial is a standout addition to landscape design. This organically grown, non-GMO seeds germinate at approximately 70% or better, ensuring reliable establishment. Each packet arrives in sustainable, reusable packaging that reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible seed production.

Passiflora mollissima is generally a subtropical to tropical vine. It thrives in zones 10 to 12 with a minimum cold hardiness of 28°F and is commonly found in the Andes at elevations of 6000 to 7000 feet. This fast-growing vine, climbing 20 to 25 feet, typically starts producing fruits by the second year and can yield up to 300 fruits per vine when in full production. Its striking red-pink flowers grow at the ends of long stalks and may attract hummingbirds.

Passiflora has received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit (AGM) for its exceptional qualities in garden cultivation. This recognition attests to its suitability as a garden plant.

This is an heirloom seed, meaning it has been passed down from generation to generation for at least 75 years. As a rule, heirloom seeds taste better and will grow the same year after year.

These are also open pollinated meaning they will reproduce themselves. While all heirlooms are open pollinated not all open pollinated seeds are heirlooms.

Freshly Packed: These herb seeds are packed for the current growing season and will provide high germination rates next year as well.
