Flower Native Texas Milkweed Antelope Horn represents a regionally-adapted perennial species integral to monarch butterfly conservation and native pollinator support throughout the south-central United States. The plant derives its common name from its distinctive horn-shaped foliage, which creates architectural interest even during non-flowering periods. As a member of the Asclepiadaceae family, Antelope Horn serves as the obligate larval host plant for monarch butterflies and provides essential nectar resources for adult monarchs and queen butterflies during their migratory cycles. The plant produces clusters of delicate flowers in spring, with occasional secondary blooming in fall under favorable conditions. The flowers attract diverse pollinator species while the distinctive horn-shaped leaves provide visual character to native plant gardens and naturalized landscapes. The toxic milky sap present throughout the plant tissues serves a critical ecological function—monarch caterpillars sequester these alkaloids, rendering themselves unpalatable to predators and providing essential chemical defense mechanisms. Antelope Horn thrives in sandy or gravelly soils with excellent drainage, making it particularly valuable for xeriscaping applications and regions with limited water availability. The hardy perennial nature ensures multi-year productivity once established, reducing replanting requirements and supporting long-term butterfly population stability. This packet contains 25 non-GMO, heirloom seeds. Successful monarch conservation requires pesticide-free gardening practices; avoid all chemical applications to protect caterpillars and adult butterflies. Our seeds are sustainably sourced, and our packaging is fully recyclable and environmentally responsible.

This is an heirloom seed, meaning it has been passed down from generation to generation for at least 75 years. As a rule, heirloom seeds taste better and will grow the same year after year.

These are also open pollinated meaning they will reproduce themselves. While all heirlooms are open pollinated not all open pollinated seeds are heirlooms.

Freshly Packed: These seeds are packed for the current growing season and will provide high germination rates next year as well.
