Tomato Slicing Determinate Marglobe 100 Non-GMO, Heirloom Seeds
Marglobe Tomato is a classic heirloom slicing variety with red, globe-shaped fruit and firm flesh. Determinate plants tend toward a concentrated harvest, making it convenient to gather tomatoes for fresh meals and batches of sauce. Fruits typically weigh approximately 7–9 ounces under favorable conditions. Picture a basket of ripe tomatoes becoming thick sandwich slices or a warm bowl of roasted tomato soup. Each packet contains 100 non-GMO heirloom seeds.

Why Choose Marglobe Tomato?
- Classic Red Slicers: Globe-shaped fruit offers familiar tomato flavor and a versatile size for sandwiches and salads.
- Firm Texture: Substantial flesh works well fresh, roasted, or simmered into soups and sauces.
- Determinate Habit: Plants tend to concentrate production rather than growing and fruiting indefinitely; individual fruits do not necessarily ripen at once.
- Heirloom and Open-Pollinated: Save seeds from healthy, suitably isolated plants when maintaining varietal characteristics.
- Versatile Harvest: Enjoy ripe fruit fresh or freeze prepared tomatoes for later cooking.
Planting Tips for Success
- Starting Seeds: Sow indoors approximately 6–8 weeks before your planned transplant date, about 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix. Keep evenly moist and provide bright light after emergence.
- Transplanting: Harden seedlings off gradually and plant outdoors after frost danger passes and soil and nights have warmed.
- Sun and Soil: Choose 6–8 hours of direct sunlight and fertile, well-drained soil amended with finished compost.
- Spacing: Allow approximately 24–36 inches between supported plants and adequate row space for airflow and harvest access.
- Support: Install sturdy cages or stakes early to keep fruit off the ground and support branches as tomatoes develop.
- Watering: Water consistently at soil level. Mulch after soil warms to moderate moisture swings and reduce soil splash.
- Fertilizing: Follow soil-test recommendations and fertilizer label directions. Avoid excessive nitrogen that favors leaves over fruit.
- Plant Care: Avoid heavy pruning of determinate plants. Retain healthy foliage to shade fruit and inspect regularly for pests and disease.
- Harvest: Allow approximately 76 days from transplant as a planning estimate, not a guarantee. Pick fully red fruit that yields slightly to gentle pressure.

Roasted Marglobe Tomato-Basil Soup
Use ripe, harvested Marglobe tomatoes, not planting seeds. Serves 4. Preparation: 15 minutes. Cooking: approximately 50 minutes.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ripe Marglobe tomatoes, washed, cored, and halved
- 1 medium yellow onion, cut into wedges
- 4 garlic cloves, peeled
- 3 tablespoons olive oil, plus a little for serving if desired
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups vegetable broth, plus more to adjust consistency
- 1/2 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves, washed and dried, plus more for garnish
- Crusty bread for serving, optional
Directions
- Heat the oven to 425°F. Arrange tomatoes cut-side up with onion and garlic on a rimmed baking sheet. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Roast for 30–35 minutes until tomatoes soften and edges begin to brown. Check garlic during roasting and remove early if needed to prevent burning.
- Transfer vegetables and their juices to a saucepan. Add broth, bring to a gentle simmer, and cook for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and add basil. Blend carefully with an immersion blender, keeping the blade submerged to prevent hot splashes. For a countertop blender, let soup cool somewhat, work in small batches, vent the lid according to the appliance instructions, and never tightly seal hot liquid.
- Return soup to gentle heat, adjust consistency with broth, and taste for seasoning. Serve with torn basil and an optional drizzle of olive oil, with bread alongside.
Serving and Storage
Cool leftovers promptly in shallow containers and refrigerate within 2 hours, or within 1 hour above 90°F. Use refrigerated soup within 3–4 days and reheat thoroughly. This is not a shelf-stable canning recipe. Check broth and optional bread labels for allergens.
