Why Choose Gold Nugget Carrots?

  • Deep-yellow roots: Add a sunny contrast to salads, vegetable trays, and cooked dishes.
  • Small-cored Nantes type: Roots combine a useful 5 to 7-inch length with a flavorful eating quality.
  • Vigorous tops: Attractive dark green foliage supports a productive garden planting.
  • Easy-to-handle pellets: The coating helps you see and space individual seeds during sowing.
  • Four packet sizes: Choose the quantity that fits your bed or succession-planting plan.

What Are Pelleted Seeds?

Pelleted seeds are coated to create a more uniform shape and make individual seeds easier to handle. Keep pellets and surrounding soil consistently moist during germination so the coating can break down. Learn more about pelleted seeds.

Planting Tips for Success

  • Choose seasonal timing: Direct sow in spring or late summer for fall harvests, adjusting to local weather and frost dates. Carrots generally perform best in cool growing conditions.
  • Prepare loose soil: Remove stones and clumps and loosen the bed deeply enough for straight roots. Use a suitably deep container if growing in pots.
  • Sow shallowly: Plant approximately 1/4 inch deep in fine soil. Keep the surface evenly moist while pellets soften and seedlings emerge.
  • Thin for root development: Allow approximately 2 to 3 inches between plants. Packet size changes seed quantity, not the spacing plants need.
  • Provide light and moisture: Choose a sunny location and water consistently without waterlogging the bed.
  • Feed moderately: Follow soil-test or fertilizer-label guidance. Avoid excessive nitrogen or fresh manure that can favor tops or misshapen roots. Carrots do not need stakes or cages.
  • Weed and harvest gently: Remove competing weeds while small and loosen the soil before lifting developed roots.

Honey-Lemon Roasted Gold Nugget Carrots

Use harvested Gold Nugget carrots for a golden, lightly glazed side dish. Ingredients are harvested produce, not seed-packet contents. Serves 4. Prep: 15 minutes. Cook: 25 to 35 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds harvested Gold Nugget yellow carrots
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley

Directions

  1. Heat the oven to 400°F. Wash carrots under running water, trim, and peel if desired.
  2. Halve lengthwise, quartering thick roots so pieces have similar thickness. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  3. Arrange in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Roast for 20 minutes, turning once.
  4. Mix honey with lemon juice. Toss the carrots with the mixture and roast for another 5 to 15 minutes, until fork-tender. Watch closely near the end so the glaze does not burn.
  5. Finish with lemon zest and parsley. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.

Recipe Tips and Storage

Use maple syrup instead of honey if preferred. Check thinner carrots early and give thicker pieces extra time as needed. Refrigerate leftovers in a covered container within 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F, and use within 3 to 4 days. This is a cooked side dish, not a tested canning recipe.
