This is the easiest artichoke variety to grow from seed. Specifically bred for annual production, Imperial Star produces artichokes the first season from seed. A plant typically has six to eight mature buds, averaging from three to four inches in diameter per plant. The spreading plants will grow three to four feet tall. Perennial to Zone Seven; otherwise, treat as an annual. Harvest in about 85 days. Germination rate about 80% or better.
