The Green Globe Artichoke is the king of the artichokes. It's the one you're most likely to find in your local supermarket or at your favorite restaurant.

In addition to its delicious taste, the foliage of the Green Globe Artichoke is very attractive, and provides a welcomed aesthetic addition to the garden even after harvest.

Native to the Mediterranean, Green Globe Artichoke seeds have been grown for decades and their fruits are eaten by and reserved for the noble and rich in ancient Greece and Rome.

Vibrant green stalks are adorned with intriguing leaves and topped with buds, which can turn purple if left uncut.

Harvest in about 85 days. Germination rate about 80% or better.

Our Non-GMO seeds are sustainable. Our packaging is environmentally friendly, climate friendly, reusable, and recyclable.

This is an heirloom seed, meaning it has been passed down from generation to generation for at least 75 years. As a rule, heirloom seeds taste better and will grow the same year after year.

These are also open pollinated meaning they will reproduce themselves. While all heirlooms are open pollinated not all open pollinated seeds are heirlooms.

Freshly Packed: These artichoke seeds are packed for the current growing season and will provide high germination rates next year as well.

Start indoors, using grow lights (make sure to follow manufactures instructions), 3 to 4 weeks before last frost. Sow seeds 1/4 inch in a 4 x 4 x 4 pot filled 3/4 of the way with germination mix.

Transplant out when danger of frost has passed and plants are 6 to 12 inches tall. Use a hardening off technique before planting in the ground.

Plant roots plus one inch of stem and no deeper. Use Medina Ag HastaGro Plant fertilizer to help prevent transplant shock. Keep moist down to one inch.

Water first couple of days then follow a normal routine. Do not water every day.

Must be planted in a spot where they will get 8 to 10 hours of direct sunlight. If they do not get enough light, plants will tend to be leggy. They will grow tall and not produce as expected.

Regardless of color or variety, artichokes are ready to harvest when the buds begin to slightly open. Artichoke stems are thick and will need a pruning knife to harvest.

Unharvested artichoke buds will bloom into a stunning 3 to 5 inch wide thistle though no longer being edible. Lower buds on the stalk will not mature to be as large as the top buds but can be harvested when about 3 inches in diameter.

You can let a plant or two go to seed and save the Green Globe artichoke seeds for furture use.
