Cucumber Pickling White Wonder produces distinctive white-skinned cucumbers with black spines, crisp flesh, and a mild flavor that works beautifully for fresh eating and pickling. The 3–5 inch fruits offer strong pickling quality, while the plants show good resistance to angular leaf spot and powdery mildew. As monoecious plants, White Wonder cucumbers produce both male and female flowers and rely on bees, other insects, or wind for pollination and fruit set.

Germination Rate: 85%. Test Date: 06/25. TLM.

Why Choose White Wonder Pickling Cucumber?

  • Distinctive white skin: Pale white fruit with black spines stands out in the garden and in the pickle jar.
  • Disease resistance: Good resistance to angular leaf spot and powdery mildew can support healthier plants and dependable harvests.
  • Superior pickling quality: Crisp 3–5 inch fruits with mild flavor are well suited to home canning and quick pickles.
  • Fresh-eating versatility: Slice the mild, refreshing fruit for salads, snacks, dips, and summer dishes.
  • Open-pollinated heirloom: A traditional variety that can be saved for future gardens.
  • Reliable pollination: Monoecious plants produce both male and female flowers, with bees, insects, and wind helping produce fruit.

Planting Tips for Success

  • Choose full sun with at least 6–8 hours of direct light each day.
  • Direct sow after the last frost when soil temperatures reach 60–70°F, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before transplanting.
  • Sow seeds about 1 inch deep and 6 inches apart in rows 3–5 feet apart. Thin seedlings to about 12 inches apart after emergence.
  • Grow in fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter with a pH around 6.0–6.8.
  • Water consistently and deeply, keeping soil evenly moist. Water at the base to reduce foliar disease pressure.
  • Train vines onto a trellis or fence to improve airflow, reduce disease pressure, and make harvesting easier.
  • Side-dress with a balanced vegetable fertilizer when vines begin to run. Avoid excess nitrogen, which can encourage leaves over fruit.
  • Harvest at 3–5 inches for the best pickling quality. Pick often to encourage continued production.
  • Inspect vines regularly for cucumber beetles, squash bugs, and mildew, and remove damaged leaves promptly.
