Leafy Greens Mustard Tendergreen 500 Non-GMO, Heirloom Seeds
Tendergreen Mustard, also known as Spinach Mustard, brings mild flavor and tender texture to your leafy greens garden. This non-GMO, open-pollinated heirloom offers a versatile harvest: pick young leaves for fresh salads or let them develop into larger greens for skillet dishes, soups, and Southern-style preparations. Its gentler mustard flavor makes it a welcoming choice for gardeners who enjoy leafy greens without an intensely peppery bite.
Baby leaves can be ready in about 21 days, with mature greens developing in approximately 45 days under suitable growing conditions. Sow small batches over time, then step outside to gather fresh leaves for dinner. A handful of young greens adds freshness to a salad, while a larger harvest becomes a simple garlic-and-lemon side dish. Each packet contains 500 seeds for planting.

Why Choose Tendergreen Mustard?
- Mild, versatile flavor: Tendergreen offers a gentler mustard taste that fits fresh salads and cooked dishes. Young leaves are especially useful when you prefer a delicate texture.
- Two harvest stages: Begin picking baby leaves in about 21 days or grow plants to mature size in about 45 days. Actual timing depends on weather, soil, and growing conditions.
- Repeat picking: Harvest outer leaves while leaving the central growing point intact to allow continued growth when conditions are favorable.
- Useful kitchen greens: Enjoy the harvest sautéed, simmered, or stirred into soups. Tendergreen can also stand in for spinach in dishes where its flavor and texture suit the recipe.
- Succession-planting potential: Several smaller sowings can help spread out the harvest instead of producing all your greens at once.
- Heirloom and open-pollinated: Grow a traditional variety with seed-saving potential. Saving seed true to type requires appropriate isolation from compatible flowering brassicas.
Planting Tips for Success
- Choose your planting window: Direct-sow during suitable local spring or fall planting periods. Favor cooler conditions for tender leaf quality, and use your seed packet and local gardening guidance to select sowing dates.
- Prepare the soil: Choose fertile, well-drained soil and work in finished compost before sowing. A loose seedbed helps small seeds establish without competing with large clods or weeds.
- Provide suitable light: Grow in sun to partial shade. In warmer conditions, some afternoon shade can help reduce stress, but plants still need adequate light for productive growth.
- Sow carefully: Plant seeds approximately ¼ to ½ inch deep, following packet guidance. Water gently after sowing so seeds remain in place, and keep the seedbed moist during germination.
- Thin for your harvest goal: Closer sowings can be harvested as baby greens. Thin plants intended for mature leaves according to packet spacing so they have room to develop and air can circulate.
- Water consistently: Keep soil evenly moist rather than alternating between drought and saturation. Water at soil level when practical, and avoid leaving roots in standing water.
- Feed sensibly: Use compost and a suitable vegetable fertilizer according to its label and your soil's needs. If plants grow slowly or look pale, assess moisture and soil fertility before adding more fertilizer.
- Keep weeds under control: Remove weeds while they are small to reduce competition for moisture and nutrients. No staking is normally needed for a leafy harvest.
- Watch the foliage: Check leaves regularly for chewing insects and other damage. Where appropriate, a secured insect-cover fabric can help protect young plants; monitor beneath it and follow local pest-management advice.
- Harvest gently: Pick tender outer leaves without damaging the center, or cut whole young plants for a baby-leaf harvest. Harvest before leaves become overly coarse, and sow additional small batches for a steadier supply.

Cooking Methods
- Fresh salads: Wash tender baby leaves thoroughly and toss with a light vinaigrette. Pair them with other salad greens for a mix of flavors and textures.
- Garlic-and-lemon sauté: Briefly wilt chopped greens in olive oil with garlic, then finish with lemon juice. Add leaves in batches so they cook evenly without overcrowding the skillet.
- Southern-style greens: Simmer larger leaves with onion, broth, and your preferred seasonings until tender. Trim coarse stems and adjust cooking time to the maturity of the harvest.
- Soups and stews: Stir chopped tender leaves into the pot near the end of cooking. Larger leaves may need more time to soften.
- Quick stir-fries: Cook with ginger, garlic, and a little sesame oil, adding tender leaves toward the end so they retain some texture.
- Egg dishes and grain bowls: Wilt the greens before folding them into scrambled eggs or spooning them over rice or other cooked grains. Drain excess liquid when needed.

Important Disclosures
- Variety Disclaimer: Flavor, leaf size, maturity, and yield vary with climate, soil, and care. Leaves can become stronger tasting in heat or as they mature; harvest young leaves when you prefer a milder flavor.
- Seed Storage: Keep planting seeds cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Close the packet securely between sowings.
- Planting Zones: Use local spring and fall sowing windows rather than relying on a hardiness-zone number alone. Favor cooler weather for leaf quality and consult local gardening guidance for your conditions.
