Texas Minimum Germination Rate: 75%.

Why Choose Celebrity Plus Tomato?

  • Firm slicing fruit: Red, globe-shaped tomatoes make useful slices for sandwiches and fresh plates.
  • Versatile harvest: Enjoy tomatoes raw, roast them for a richer flavor, or add them to cooked dishes.
  • Determinate growth: A manageable garden choice that still benefits from sturdy support and adequate root space.
  • Non-GMO hybrid seed: Grow a hybrid variety without genetically engineered seed.
  • Garden-to-table appeal: Pick ripe fruit and turn your harvest into a fresh meal the same day.

Planting Tips for Success

  • Start indoors: Sow about 1/4 inch deep 6–8 weeks before your last expected frost. Keep seed-starting mix moist, not waterlogged, and provide strong light after emergence.
  • Transplant: Harden seedlings off gradually. Plant outdoors after frost danger has passed and soil has warmed to around 60°F or above.
  • Sunlight: Choose full sun, ideally 6–8 hours of direct light daily.
  • Soil: Use fertile, well-drained soil with compost, ideally around pH 6.0–6.8.
  • Spacing: Allow about 24–36 inches between supported plants and sufficient row space for access and airflow.
  • Support: Install a sturdy cage or stake at transplanting to keep branches and fruit off the soil. Avoid heavy pruning of determinate plants.
  • Watering: Maintain even moisture at the roots. Mulch helps reduce drying and soil splash; consistent watering supports fruit development but does not guarantee prevention of blossom-end rot.
  • Fertilizing: Follow soil-test recommendations and tomato fertilizer label directions. Avoid excessive nitrogen that favors foliage over fruit.
  • Containers: Use a large pot with drainage holes, quality potting mix, and sturdy support. Monitor moisture closely in hot weather.
  • Harvest: Pick when fruit develops a full red color and yields slightly to gentle pressure. Maturity depends on weather and transplant conditions.

Celebrity Plus Tomato, Basil, and Mozzarella Salad

Use ripe harvested tomatoes, not the seeds in this packet. Serves 4 as a side. Preparation: 15 minutes. No cooking required.

Ingredients

  • 3 medium-large harvested Celebrity Plus tomatoes, about 1.5 pounds total
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, drained
  • 1/2 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar, optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Wash tomatoes and basil under running water. Pat dry, remove tomato stems, and slice tomatoes into rounds about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Slice mozzarella to a similar thickness. Alternate tomato and mozzarella slices on a serving platter.
  3. Tuck basil leaves between slices or tear larger leaves and scatter over the platter.
  4. Drizzle with olive oil and optional balsamic vinegar. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Serve promptly with crusty bread, adding the dressing shortly before serving for the freshest texture.

Options: Omit mozzarella and add rinsed, drained canned white beans for a dairy-free variation. Use chopped tomatoes and cubed mozzarella for a tossed salad.

Storage: Refrigerate within 2 hours, or within 1 hour if the temperature is above 90°F. Keep covered and enjoy within 1–2 days for best texture. Store cut tomatoes and mozzarella chilled.
