Why Grow Coreopsis?

Cheerful blooms: Daisy-like flowers bring vivid color and a relaxed feel to garden displays.
Prairie-style character: Their informal appearance works beautifully in meadow-inspired plantings, cottage gardens and mixed flower borders.
Variety-specific choices: Coreopsis includes annual and perennial types, so check each listing for its life cycle, mature height and suitability for your climate.
Seasonal interest: Flowering time and duration vary with the selection and growing conditions. Removing spent blooms can help encourage further flowering.

Tips for Growing Coreopsis

Choose a sunny site with well-drained soil. Follow the individual seed packet's guidance for planting season, sowing depth, spacing and any recommended seed pretreatment. Prepare the seedbed by removing weeds and give seedlings room to develop.

Keep the seedbed appropriately moist during germination and water young plants as needed while they establish. Avoid waterlogged soil and excessive fertilizing, which can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.

Remove faded flowers to help maintain a tidy display, or leave some seed heads to mature if you want to encourage self-sowing. Perennial selections may need time to establish before reaching their fullest flowering display; do not assume every type will return in every climate.
