Our About Us Page gives you some background information on how and why David's Garden Seeds® was created. Let's start from the beginning.
David loves to garden. He grew up gardening, both here in San Antonio and out in the Texas Hill Country town of Leakey, where David's family moved when he was 12. He also did some gardening in Colorado, Michigan, all over Texas, as well as some international gardening in Iraq and Afghanistan.
As a teenager, David had to work in the garden everyday, or at least it seemed like everyday, with the Texas heat beating down on him. When he left home to join the US Army at age 18 in 1978, he made a promise to himself that he would never set foot in a garden again. He did not keep that promise for long.
David got out of the Army in 1987, shortly before we got married. That was over 37 years ago and we have had a backyard garden almost every year since then. Now, gardening has become David's go-to hobby and the real reason why David's Garden Seeds® exists. Today David spends every minute he can in the garden.
About 18 years ago, David went to the Middle East as a civilian contractor and worked several jobs during the Second Gulf War. He worked in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan.
This Company is Veteran Owned!
David's Garden Seeds® is owned by a United States Veteran. David Schulze, founder and owner, proudly served our country for eight years in the United States Army and then he served an additional five years working as a civilian in Iraq and Afghanistan with the United States Military. David started this business in 2009, after returning from the Middle East.
In September of 2009, he started David's Garden Seeds® because gardening is his favorite hobby. He started by selling some of his favorite seeds, all vegetables on Amazon. Once it took off, he added more and more veggies, some fruit seeds, herb seeds and flower seeds. The company was started out of our home. Over time, David added valued teammates to help him with building the company. His wife, Juanita, helped every evening after getting home from her job.
In November of 2015, David's Garden Seeds® was relocated to 7715 Tezel Road as the business had outgrown the house. On February 29, 2016, Juanita quit her day job and joined the team full time.
In May of 2018, the business moved next door to 7717 Tezel Road because David's Garden Seeds® needed more room to operate.
In July of 2019, David and Juanita bought four acres of land and moved their home to Poteet. In July of 2020, we moved our company out of San Antonio to our property. To read about our complete life in the country journey, check out Juanita's website, Mrs. David's Garden Seeds® website and daily journal here.
In January of 2024, we bought an adjoining four acres so we have plenty of room for expansion.
Out here on the farm, we have a business complex with a farm seed store, commercial kitchen, fulfillment center, production center, garden area (many of these are with raised beds), greenhouse, hoop houses, orchard, chickens, rabbits, koi fish, goldfish, Nigerian Dwarf goats, beehives, three dogs, and a cat. We also have a gazebo where you can take selfies, watch the fish and listen to the waterfall. God has been good to us. Behind the business buildings is our home where we live with our dogs and cat. We love country life.
We are currently in our 16th year of business and we are having a lot of fun helping families learn how to grow their own food without chemicals.
DISCLAIMER
We sell top quality seeds that are packed fresh by us each day on our farm. We grow them in our garden beds and field all around our farm. Thousands upon thousands of you have been growing our seeds now for over 15 years with very few complaints. That being said, gardening is an art and an experiment, finding what works best in your area with your weather and climate at different times of the year.
When we send our seeds out to you, we know we have sent the very best seeds available. We are not responsible for the seeds if they are planted while too cold, too hot, or if there are excess rains or lack of rain, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, or any other acts of nature.
David's Garden Seeds® is a proud member of Go Texan since 2017.
