Red Gem Marigold Seed (Tagetes tenuifolia) produce Edible, bite-size flowers for use as edible garnish. Hundreds of petite flowers cover neat, low mounds of lacy foliage with a citrus scent. Long-blooming for beds, borders, and containers where it attracts beneficial insects, such as ladybugs, hoverflies, butterflies, predatory bugs, and parasitic wasps. Leaves of the plant are edible and are used as flavorful salad greens and garnish. Also known as signet marigold. 

Edible Flowers: Use the flowers to dress up salads and desserts or cooked in egg or rice dishes. Flavor is floral with hints of citrus and spice, and slightly bitter. Remove the petals from the flower base before consuming as the base can be quite bitter. Averages a height from 10 to 12 inches.  Blooms in about 60 days. Germination rate about 70% or better.

This is an heirloom seed, meaning it has been passed down from generation to generation for at least 75 years. As a rule, heirloom seeds taste better and will grow the same year after year.

These are also open pollinated meaning they will reproduce themselves. While all heirlooms are open pollinated not all open pollinated seeds are heirlooms.

Companion planting is planting seed varieties near each other to benefit one or more of the plants. Some plants benefit each other by attracting beneficial insects, keeping away unwanted bugs. Others aid in pollination. Some plants have working relationships with each other and others have antagonistic (hostile) relationships.
