Wild Blue Iris is a hardy rhizomatous perennial that grows 1-2 ft. tall. Flowers resemble the common garden iris and are pale blue. Flowers typically appear in May or June, depending on the elevation. Seeds have high dormancy and should be planted in fall, or provide cold stratification for 30 days prior to planting in spring. Plants prefer full sun and moist conditions, being found naturally in moist meadows and along stream banks from low valleys to 9,000 ft. elevation in the western U.S and into Mexico. Blooms in about 60 days.

Germination Rate: 85%. Test Date: 6/26. AWSC.

This is an heirloom seed, meaning it has been passed down from generation to generation for at least 75 years. As a rule, heirloom seeds taste better and will grow the same year after year.

These are also open pollinated meaning they will reproduce themselves. While all heirlooms are open pollinated not all open pollinated seeds are heirlooms.
