Why Choose Supersweet 100 Cherry Tomato?
- Sweet Flavor: Juicy cherry tomatoes make a flavorful fresh snack and complement savory cheeses and herbs.
- Clustered Fruit: Branching trusses carry bite-sized tomatoes that are convenient for salads and appetizers.
- Indeterminate Habit: Vines can continue growing and setting fruit through favorable weather rather than stopping at a compact bush.
- Kitchen Versatility: Enjoy fresh, briefly sautéed, roasted, or frozen for later cooking.
- Growing Options: Plant in garden beds, raised beds, or large containers with adequate root space and support.
- Non-GMO Hybrid: Hybrid breeding is distinct from genetic modification; saved offspring may not retain the parent variety's characteristics.
Planting Tips for Success
- Start Indoors: Sow about 6–8 weeks before your planned transplant date, approximately 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix. Keep evenly moist and give seedlings bright light.
- Transplant: Harden plants off gradually and set outdoors after frost danger passes and soil warms.
- Sunlight: Choose a site with 6–8 hours of direct sun for productive growth.
- Soil: Use fertile, well-drained soil with finished compost. Soil testing can guide amendments.
- Spacing: Allow about 24–36 inches between supported plants, with additional space where needed for airflow and access.
- Support: Install a sturdy tall cage, stake, or trellis early. Tie new growth loosely as vines develop.
- Water and Mulch: Water consistently at soil level and mulch after soil warms to conserve moisture and reduce soil splash.
- Fertilizing: Follow soil-test recommendations and fertilizer label directions. Avoid excessive nitrogen that encourages foliage over fruit.
- Pruning: Remove damaged lower leaves and manage crowded growth without stripping healthy foliage that shades fruit.
- Containers: Use a large pot with drainage and strong support. Check moisture frequently during hot weather.
- Harvest: Pick when tomatoes are fully red and ripe. Check regularly during peak production; heat, moisture, and weather influence fruit set and yield.
