Southern Pea Bush Pinkeye Purplehull is the world’s leading cowpea variety, prized for its reliability and productivity. (Special Note: We discovered that these are grown right up the street from us (20 miles). We were able to eliminate the middle man and a lot of transportation costs. These were harvested in September 2025. They don't get much fresher than this.) This bush to semi-vining plant grows to about 24 inches tall and sets abundant 6 to 7-inch purple pods early in the season. Its cream-colored seeds marked with distinctive purple or pink eyes are not only visually striking but also prized for their excellent flavor and nutritional value. The plant’s lavender blossoms enhance its appeal, attracting beneficial pollinators. Known for exceptional heat tolerance, these cowpeas thrive in warm climates and consistently deliver heavy yields, making them ideal for growers seeking resilience and performance. With 100 non-GMO seeds, this variety offers a dependable choice for sustainable and productive Southern pea cultivation. Great for stopping soil erosion and weed suppression. Cowpeas make an excellent Nitrogen source ahead of fall-planted crops and attract many beneficial insects. Cowpeas grow well on poor land and add lots of organic matter to the soil. Also, they make a good animal fodder crop.
