Pelleted Seed Lettuce Bibb Rosaine 4 Non-GMO, Heirloom Seed Sizes Available
Bring jewel-toned color and crisp texture to your salad plate with Rosaine Pelleted Lettuce Seeds. This dark-red Little Gem type forms compact, dense heads with semi-savoy leaves. Its small heads are useful for individual salads, halved lettuce hearts, and fresh leaf cups. Rosaine is valued for bolt tolerance, although cool conditions and consistent moisture still support the best eating quality. Choose 60, 80, 100, or 200 pelleted seeds.

Why Choose Rosaine Lettuce?
- Dark-red leaves: Rich color adds contrast to mixed salads and composed plates.
- Compact heads: Dense Little Gem-type heads suit small portions and lettuce-heart preparations.
- Crisp texture: Semi-savoy leaves hold light dressings and provide a refreshing bite.
- Bolt tolerance: Helps extend the harvest opportunity under suitable conditions without guaranteeing performance in extreme heat.
- Pelleted seed: Easier-to-see pellets help with handling and spacing.
Planting Tips for Success
- Choose the season: Sow for spring or fall harvests using local frost dates and weather. Intense heat can reduce germination and leaf quality.
- Sow shallowly: Press pellets into moist fine soil or seed-starting mix and cover only lightly, approximately 1/8 inch. Lettuce benefits from light during germination.
- Maintain moisture: Keep pellets evenly moist as the coating softens and seedlings emerge. Avoid waterlogging.
- Allow room: Space established plants approximately 6 to 8 inches apart for compact heads, adjusting to your harvest goals.
- Provide light: Grow in sun, with afternoon protection when intense heat stresses the crop.
- Feed moderately: Use fertile, well-drained soil with mature compost. Follow soil-test and fertilizer-label guidance.
- Support and harvest: Staking is unnecessary. Cut heads at the base when firm and suitably sized, preferably during the cool part of the day. Chill harvested lettuce promptly.
Pelleted Seed and Variety Details
Pellets improve seed visibility and handling but do not guarantee emergence or eliminate thinning. The existing seed information describes conventional seed with NOP-compliant pelleting; this is not a claim that the seed is certified organic. The supplier designation recorded in this listing is Plant Variety Protected (MT0-30).
The recorded resistance profile lists high resistance to downy mildew EU races 16–26, 31, and 32; US races 5–9; lettuce leaf aphid (Nasonovia ribisnigri); and lettuce root aphid (Pemphigus bursarius). Resistance applies to specified pests or races and does not mean immunity. Learn more about pelleted seeds.

Rosaine Lettuce-Heart Salad with Lemon-Dijon Dressing
Use harvested Rosaine lettuce, not seed-packet contents. Serves 4 as a side. Prep: 20 minutes. Cook: None.
Ingredients
- 4 small harvested Rosaine lettuce heads
- 1 cup sliced cucumber
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon honey, optional
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Directions
- Remove damaged outer leaves. Rinse lettuce thoroughly under running water, gently opening the leaves to remove trapped soil. Drain and dry well.
- Trim only the dry base, retaining enough clean core to hold the heads together. Halve each head lengthwise, checking and rinsing the cut interiors if needed. Dry again.
- Wash cucumber and tomatoes before cutting. Arrange lettuce halves on a platter with cucumber slices and tomato halves.
- Whisk olive oil, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, optional honey, salt, and pepper until combined.
- Drizzle lightly over the salad immediately before serving. Serve remaining dressing separately.
Recipe Tips and Storage
For a chopped salad, tear the dried lettuce into bite-size pieces instead. Dijon contains mustard; check labels for other allergens. Keep washed greens refrigerated and store dressing separately until serving. Refrigerate promptly within 2 hours, or within 1 hour above 90°F. Dressed leftovers are best eaten within 24 hours.
