Pelleted Seed Lettuce Summer Crisp Cherokee produces dark red, crisp leaves with a robust flavor and dependable warm-season performance. This conventional variety can be harvested as a mini head or left to develop into a full-size head. Cherokee combines exceptional heat tolerance with slow bolting and strong resistance to bottom rot, making it a practical choice for summer production. It also carries high resistance to Downy Mildew, including EU races 16, 21, 23, and 32 and US races 5–6. NOP-compliant pelleting supports precision planting, and these non-GMO, heirloom seeds are available in four sizes: 60, 80, 100, or 200 seeds. Seed lot MT0-30.

Germination Rate: 95%. Test Date: 11/25. JSS.

Texas Minimum Germination Rate: 80%

Why Choose Cherokee Pelleted Lettuce?

  • Dark Red Leaves: Deep red foliage brings bold color and a robust flavor to salads, sandwiches, wraps, and fresh summer plates.
  • Exceptional Heat Tolerance: Cherokee is suited to warm-season growing when many lettuce varieties are more likely to struggle.
  • Slow to Bolt: The slower bolting habit helps extend the time available to harvest quality leaves and heads.
  • Strong Disease Resistance: High resistance to specified Downy Mildew races and strong resistance to bottom rot provide valuable support during challenging growing conditions.
  • Flexible Harvest: Harvest compact mini heads early or allow plants to develop into full-size heads for a larger yield.
  • Precision-Friendly Pellets: The coated seeds are easier to see and space, with NOP-compliant pelleting for careful planting.

Planting Tips for Success

  • Choose the Right Season: Sow for spring or fall harvests, using Cherokee’s heat tolerance to help extend production into warmer weather.
  • Provide Sunlight: Grow in a sunny location with good airflow. In very hot conditions, afternoon protection can help keep leaves tender.
  • Prepare the Soil: Use fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter, and keep the seedbed free of weeds.
  • Plant Carefully: Sow pelleted seeds approximately 1/4 inch deep, or follow the depth recommended on the packet.
  • Space for Heads: Thin or transplant seedlings approximately 4 inches apart so heads have room to develop and airflow can reach the foliage.
  • Keep Moisture Even: Water consistently so the soil stays evenly moist but not waterlogged, especially while seedlings are establishing.
  • Feed as Needed: Start with fertile soil and apply a balanced vegetable fertilizer according to label directions when plants need additional nutrition.
  • Harvest Promptly: Pick mini heads early or harvest full-size heads while leaves are crisp and before plants begin to bolt.
