Pint Size Iceberg Lettuce Pelleted Seeds bring crisp, mild mini iceberg heads to small gardens, raised beds, and containers. Plants reach approximately 5–6 inches tall with minimal outer leaves and can be spaced 6–8 inches apart in-row. Harvestable heads develop in approximately 50 days, depending on growing conditions. Slice a freshly harvested head into small wedges for a refreshing garden-to-table salad. Choose from 60, 80, 100, or 200 seeds.

These conventional seeds have NOP-compliant pelleting for easier handling and more precise spacing. NOP-compliant pelleting does not mean the seeds are certified organic.

Germination Rate: 99%. Test Date: 9/26. JSS.

Texas Minimum Germination Rate: 80%

Why Choose Pint Size Pelleted Lettuce?

  • Compact heads: Mini iceberg plants fit closely spaced beds and smaller growing spaces.
  • Crisp texture: Mild, refreshing leaves make satisfying wedges, chopped salads, and sandwich toppings.
  • Easy-to-handle pellets: The larger coating makes individual seeds easier to see and position, reducing unnecessary thinning.
  • Quick harvest: Approximately 50-day maturity supports succession planting for repeated harvests.
  • Slow-bolting characteristics: Plants offer a useful harvest window, although prolonged heat can still affect quality and trigger bolting.

Planting Tips for Success

  • Season: Grow in the cooler weather of spring or fall. In hot climates, time sowings to avoid prolonged summer heat.
  • Light: Provide full sun in mild weather; afternoon shade can help protect plants during warmer periods.
  • Soil: Use fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost.
  • Sowing: Sow shallowly, about 1/8–1/4 inch deep. Keep the seedbed evenly moist so the pellet coating can break down; do not let pellets dry out during germination.
  • Spacing: Space plants 6–8 inches apart in-row, allowing room between rows for airflow and access.
  • Water and fertilizer: Maintain consistent moisture without waterlogging. Apply a balanced vegetable fertilizer according to its label and soil needs.
  • Support and care: No staking or trellising is needed. Remove weeds gently around the shallow roots and watch for slugs and aphids.
  • Harvest: Cut heads when firm and crisp, before they become overmature or bolt. Refrigerate promptly after harvest.

Nutritional Information

  • Harvested lettuce: Nutrition applies to the fresh lettuce you grow, not to the planting seeds or pellet coating.

Important Disclosures

  • Variety Disclaimer: Appearance, maturity, and performance vary with weather, soil, and growing practices.
  • Seed Storage: Keep unused seeds cool, dry, and protected from humidity. Pelleted seeds are best used promptly for reliable performance.
  • Planting Zones: Lettuce is a cool-season annual; choose planting dates for your local temperatures and frost conditions rather than relying on hardiness zone alone.
  • For Planting: Seeds and pellet coating are not food. The recipe below uses harvested lettuce, not the contents of the seed packet.

Pint Size Iceberg Wedge Salad with Creamy Herb Dressing

Turn your harvested mini iceberg lettuce into a crisp, refreshing side dish. Serves 4. Prep time: 15 minutes. No cooking required.

Ingredients

  • 2 harvested Pint Size mini iceberg lettuce heads
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives, plus more for topping
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1–2 tablespoons water, as needed
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions

  1. Remove damaged outer leaves. Rinse the lettuce thoroughly under cool running water, separating leaves as needed to remove soil. Drain and pat dry.
  2. Halve each mini head through the core to make 4 wedges. Trim the tough base while leaving enough core to hold each wedge together.
  3. Whisk yogurt, mayonnaise, lemon juice, chives, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add water a little at a time until the dressing is pourable.
  4. Arrange wedges on plates, drizzle with dressing, and scatter tomatoes, red onion, and extra chives over the top. Serve immediately for the best crunch.

Options and Storage

Add crumbled blue cheese or toasted sunflower kernels if desired. Keep dressing and washed lettuce refrigerated separately and assemble just before serving. Refrigerate leftovers promptly and do not leave the prepared salad at room temperature for more than 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F.
