Why Choose Adriana Pelleted Lettuce?
- Large butterhead heads: Dense heads and broad green leaves provide plenty of fresh salad and lettuce-cup possibilities.
- Tender texture: Soft, flavorful leaves pair well with light dressings and savory fillings.
- Easy seed placement: The visible pellet coating makes individual seeds easier to handle and space accurately.
- Early harvest: Approximately 45-day maturity helps you plan successive plantings.
- Useful growing traits: Tipburn tolerance and specified disease resistances support crop performance without eliminating the need for careful watering and garden sanitation.
Planting Tips for Success
- Season: Sow for cool spring or fall harvests. Even heat-tolerant lettuce benefits from avoiding prolonged extreme heat.
- Sunlight: Provide full sun in mild weather; afternoon shade can help during warmer periods.
- Soil: Prepare fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost.
- Sowing: Plant shallowly, about 1/8–1/4 inch deep. Keep the seedbed evenly moist so the pellet coating breaks down and seedlings establish.
- Spacing: Allow approximately 10–12 inches between plants for full heads, with enough space between rows for airflow and access.
- Water: Maintain consistent moisture without waterlogging. Do not allow germinating pellets to dry out.
- Fertilizer: Apply a balanced vegetable fertilizer according to its label and your soil's needs; avoid excessive feeding.
- Support and care: No staking or trellis is needed. Weed gently around shallow roots and monitor for aphids and slugs.
- Harvest: Cut well-formed heads before bolting, preferably in the cool part of the day. Refrigerate promptly.

Adriana Chickpea-Avocado Lettuce Cups
Broad harvested Adriana butterhead leaves cradle a fresh lemony filling. Serves 4 as a light lunch. Prep time: 20 minutes. No cooking required.
Ingredients
- 8–12 large harvested Adriana butterhead lettuce leaves
- 1 can (15 ounces) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1 ripe avocado, diced
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Directions
- Separate the lettuce leaves, discard damaged portions, and rinse thoroughly under cool running water. Pat dry carefully so the leaves can hold the filling.
- Whisk lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl.
- Add chickpeas, tomatoes, red onion, and parsley. Toss to coat, then gently fold in the avocado.
- Arrange leaves on a platter, doubling smaller leaves if needed. Divide the filling among them and serve immediately.
Options and Storage
Add diced cucumber for extra crunch or a little crumbled feta if desired. Prepare the chickpea mixture ahead without the avocado, keeping it refrigerated separately from the lettuce; add avocado and fill leaves just before serving. Refrigerate leftovers promptly. Do not leave prepared food at room temperature longer than 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F.
