Why Choose Tigerella Tomato?

  • Distinctive Stripes: Natural orange markings over red skin add interest to fresh salads and garden displays.
  • Small Round Fruit: Convenient for halving, slicing, and arranging on appetizer plates.
  • Fresh Tomato Flavor: Enjoy ripe fruit in simple dishes with herbs and olive oil.
  • Indeterminate Habit: Supported vines can keep growing and setting fruit while weather and plant health permit.
  • Heirloom and Open-Pollinated: Save seed from healthy, suitably isolated plants when maintaining varietal characteristics.

Planting Tips for Success

  • Start Indoors: Sow approximately 6–8 weeks before your planned transplant date, about 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting mix. Keep evenly moist and provide bright light after emergence.
  • Transplant: Harden seedlings off gradually and plant outdoors after frost danger passes and soil warms.
  • Sun and Soil: Provide 6–8 hours of direct sunlight and fertile, well-drained soil amended with finished compost.
  • Spacing: Allow approximately 24–36 inches between supported plants with adequate row space for airflow and harvest access.
  • Support: Install tall cages, stakes, or a trellis early and secure growing stems loosely.
  • Water and Mulch: Water consistently at soil level and mulch after soil warms to moderate moisture swings and reduce soil splash.
  • Fertilizing: Follow soil-test recommendations and fertilizer label directions. Avoid excessive nitrogen that favors foliage over fruit.
  • Pruning: Train vines to their support and remove damaged foliage as needed while retaining healthy leaves to shade fruit.
  • Harvest: Allow approximately 80 days from transplant as a planning estimate. Pick when fruit has mature red-and-orange coloration and yields slightly to gentle pressure. Timing and yield vary.
