The plant can grow to be 8 feet tall with 15 to 18 inch heads. Black Oil Sunflower is gorgeous in the garden but also has multiple uses. Grow your own bird feed with this one.
Sunflower Black Oil Produces a good crop of black seed heads. The leaves can be cattle food and the stem fiber can be used to make paper. The seeds are edible. They can be pressed for the oil which can be used for a variety of things to include frying.
The dried stems can also be a substitute for firewood.
Seeds have been grown organically.
Special Note! These HAVE to be direct sown--as do most sunflowers. They do not do well transplanted. You need to space them at least 12 to 18 inches apart.

As the head nears maturity, it turns upside down. This is so that birds cannot land on it and eat all the seeds. It is a natural defense mechanism.

This is an heirloom seed, meaning it has been passed down from generation to generation for at least 75 years. As a rule, heirloom seeds taste better and will grow the same year after year.
These are also open pollinated meaning they will reproduce themselves. While all heirlooms are open pollinated not all open pollinated seeds are heirlooms.
Freshly Packed: These sunflower seeds are packed for the current growing season and will provide high germination rates next year as well.
