The following is a list of products for zone 9 gardening. The list is based off the Almanac and the National Hardiness Map put out by the United States Depart of Agriculture.

Hardiness map helps you pick out what your hardiness zone is which in turn predicts when and what you can plant.

This is not an exact science but gets you close.

Before beginning you should read our page on Seed Germination. It has a lot of helpful tips. I did not read these in a book but this page is based on my own experiences.

For Zone 9:

July --

 Transplants:

      Vegetable -- pumpkin, winter squash

      Herb -- any

      Flower --

Mostly July is a time for getting ready for fall planting

   Direct Sow:

      Vegetable --

      Herb --

      Flower -

June --

   Transplants:

Vegetable -- go ahead and get items needed to start peppers and cherry tomatoes since these will need to be started in July. If you are going to do pumpkins as transplants start them this month.

Herb -- most all herbs can be started in a shaded area

      Flower -- None

   Direct Sow:

Vegetable -- okra, southern peas, summer squash, zucchini, watermelon -- go ahead and get items needed to start peppers and tomatoes -- keep in mind that some of these will require a lot of water and you still may not get anything. You will have to determine if the price you pay for water is worth it.

Herb -- most all herbs can be started in a shaded area

Flower -- zinnia, coneflower, phlox, sunflower

This is by no means an exact list and since weather conditions are subject to change, this should be only used as a guide. As my favorite gardener, Bob Webster, likes to say, "Gardening is a lot like gambling, only the odds are worse."
