Bold garlic flavor. For true garlic lovers, this light purple-skinned, hard-neck rocambole-type is known for its robust, spicy flavor. German Red is well adapted to northern climates and stores well. Medium-sized cloves, 8–9 per head. A hard-neck type. Most home gardeners do not have the space to grow a pound of garlic. To help the home gardeners, we sell it by the clove. Each clove has ?? bulbs. Each bulb will produce a clove. How? Do not ask me how but it does. 100% germination. Stiff-neck bulbs form large outside cloves and no inner cloves. Hard-neck garlic has a mild taste and is easy to peel. The garlic will form little balls on them. These are called bulbils which are tiny, undivided bulbs produced in the scape of hard-neck garlic. The scape looks like a garlic flower; however, the reproductive parts are for show only, there is no cross pollination. Essentially, the bulbils are clones of the mother plant that can be planted to produce a replica of this parent. According to the grower, these were grown organically.
