Annual ryegrass is a very competitive winter annual, with good seedling vigor, fast germination (with adequate moisture) and rapid establishment. Annual rye grass is a bunch grass, yellowish-green at the base, with long glossy green leaves up to 12 inches each. it will overwinter in certain years.
Annual ryegrass grows vigorously under a wide range of soils and climates. It is tolerant of wet soils and temporary flooding, and will grow in sandy soils, but is better adapted to heavy clay or silty soils. Annual rye grass tolerates a pH range of 5 to 8 with the optimum between 6 and 7. Can become a weed if allowed to set seed. Germination rate about 80% or better.
